Send to Premiere Pro 2020
Keyboard Shortcut: SHIFT-COMMAND-P on Mac and SHIFT-CONTROL-P on Windows
Once you have all the clips in for your project selected you can access the Send To menu from File> Send To or by right-clicking over the selected media and accessing the Send To via the contextual menu.
Once you select Adobe Premiere Pro (Version) a new menu will appear giving you all of your Export Options. Although the export options are straightforward you can specify if you would like to put the clips in a bin or not. As well as tell Kyno what to do with subclips in case you created any and lastly if you would like XMP metadata written
Description
You can send selected clips from the icon view, from the list view or from the detail view to Adobe Premiere Pro by choosing Send To - Adobe Premiere Pro... from the context menus or by pressing Cmd-Shift-P (Mac) / Control-Shift-P (Win).
Options
Bins
- None: Creates no bins in Premiere Pro and imports clips to the top level
- From folders: Creates a bin structure that matches the folder structure that your files are in. You can select the level up to which you'd like to mirror that structure (i.e. first parent folder, second parent folder, etc.)
- Specify: Creates a bin with a specific name
- Subclips
- Export as markers: Creates markers with duration in Premiere Pro from the subclips you've defined in Kyno
- Create subclips in the project: Creates subclips that are listed in your project bins and can be dragged onto the timeline (equivalent to Make Subclip... in Premiere Pro)
XMP
- Update/write XMP metadata: Sets XMP metadata on the exported clips, by either writing to the clip itself or adding an XMP sidecar file. This is a necessary step to transfer all Kyno metadata to Premiere Pro. Without this the following metadata fields will not be transferred to Premiere: Rating, Tags, Camera Angle
Open With
Select the version of Premiere Pro you wish to send to. If there's only one version installed the dropdown is disabled.

In this example, I’ve specified a bin with its own unique title.
Once you click OK. Premiere Pro will launch and present you with a Bin with that specific title.
If you hit the tilde key ‘`’on your keyboard within Premiere Pro CC 2020 you can pull up a full-screen version of your clips and you can see all the metadata that you manually logged in Kyno.
You can now start editing your project with the ability to search the tags, scene, take, and any other metadata that you and your team entered manually from Kyno. In the example below I am searching for the scene which in my case takes place in a “Loc: Sergalo Village” This defined language can also be found in my spreadsheet for this documentary as we shot in various locations throughout the greater mountains of Kurdistan.
As we all know when you are working on a creative project, the need to add metadata comes to the surface mid-project and sometimes editors start inputting that metadata inside the NLE, in this case, the NLE being Adobe Premiere. When this happens you can easily transfer that metadata from Premiere into Kyno for future use with any other projects.
In order to do this, once you enter the metadata in XMP format in Premiere, you will need to export an FCP XML. File> Export > Financial Cut Pro XML . Save this to a Metadata folder on your OWC Jellyfish share within the project so you can easily find it when you import it into Kyno.
Once you have the file, go back to Kyno and from the File menu, import metadata, and choose the XML that you exported from Premiere. Kyno will present you with an import metadata menu.
“Kyno will import the metadata for the X number of selected and matched items to the files listed in the column. Matched File, Tags will be merged, other metadata will be overwritten if the local item doesn’t have data for a certain field.” Be sure to check “Read metadata from XMP” as this is where the new metadata is coming from.
Once you click “OK”, Kyno will sync up the new metadata with your existing metadata on those files.
